Addis Ababa, Ethiopia September 12 2024
Twenty five (25) Africa lawmakers from nineteen (19) countries gathered in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa for the first Pan-Africa Israel Parliamentary Summit to openly declare their support for the Jewish State of Israel.
The Summit which was held at the prestigious Skyline Hotel from September 10 -11, 2024, drew legislators and high profiled personalities from Africa, Israel and Europe.
The resolution condemns legal efforts against Israel by the African Union and other entities, stating that these actions undermine negotiations and existing agreements, including the Oslo Accords. The resolution declares, “We affirm Jerusalem as the legitimate, undivided, and eternal capital of the Jewish State of Israel.” It also calls for respecting the historical, legal, cultural, and religious connections of the Jewish people to historic Palestine, including Jerusalem and “the Judea and Samaria ‘West Bank.
The resolution, directed at African heads of state, condemns the unending voting against Israel at the UN, anti-Zionism as a form of antisemitism and denounces violence against Israel, naming Hamas and Iranian-backed groups. It supports multilateral peace efforts like the Abraham Accords and calls for stronger diplomatic and economic ties between Africa and Israel. Additionally, it backed Israel’s observer status in the African Union.
Speakers at this historic conference include; Fr. Dr. Louison Emerick Bissila, Chaplain, African Union (AU); Rev. Erik Selle, Founder, Africa Israel Initiative (AII); Bishop Dennis N’thumbi, Africa Director, Israel Allies Foundation (IAF); Pieter Hoogendoor Esq, Chairman, thinc.; Amb Avraham Neguise, Israel Ambassador to Ethiopia; MPs and MKs from Africa and Israel.
The “Addis Ababa Declaration of Africa-Israel Cooperation and Partnership” was signed by lawmakers from countries including Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Malawi, Madagascar, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
It’s time for Africa to look to its shared history with the people of Israel and stop looking at its relationship with the State of Israel from the 20th century ideologies of capitalism, communism and socialism.
